The Question: What are your Occupational Goals for 2021?

Are you moving forward? Are you developing yourself? Are you growing, developing, and leading your own occupation and career forward?

It’s important that you take the time to invest in yourself.

Reflection on 2020

Have you given up on 2021 already? Do you think it's going to be worse than last year?

Well, we don't.
Yes, last year in 2020 was filled with heartache, struggles, and adjustments. And yes we know don't magically change because it struck midnight. But now in 2021, we know how to handle those challenges. We've built the strength and the endurance to thrive in 2021 and move forward.

"I just totally believe 2021 just like 2020 is gonna rock as 2020 rocked for me. [....] We just had to adjust and do things a little different. But it was still great."

Amy realized that change was good and, "it's something that I preferred with all the zoom consultations. So convenient. Especially when you're a working mom.

Stepping into 2021

Are you stepping into 2021 thinking that it is an opportunity for you to become stronger? Better?

Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.

This is your opportunity to do life differently. To do business differently. This week's episode is all about Occupational goals.

Have you reviewed and changed your occupational goals for 2021?

Now that you're spending less time in traffic, or less time in meetings, less time by the water cooler, what are you doing with your time?

Did you set your goals higher?

Are you pondering a career change?

The Career Change

Amy Cruz wasn't always intending to do real estate. But she took a leap and found out she loved it 7 years ago, after spending 7 years in the dental industry.

When she stepped into what she thought was her dream she realized it wasn't home. She wasn't truly happy because it was so routine.

And Amy had the confidence to step because Lori and her community encouraged her. She saw the love and passion behind real estate. And once she tasted real estate she was hooked.

Mentorship and Training

Do you have someone in your life that believes in you?

Before Amy was brought into the family real estate business with Lori, she had to take a few tests. This is something that's required or anything, but it's something at Lori Alvarez and Team that we like to do to make sure someone's personality is an accurate fit so they can thrive. The main test was called the DISC Assessment. Learn more about it here.

After joining real estate Amy said, "What I really love about real estate, is I feel like I kind of found a better person in me.

Paired with that DISC Assessment Amy has been thriving

Lori's test revealed that she is 99% D, Dominant, and 99% I, Influencer.

Amy's test revealed that she is 99% I, Influencer, and 96% S, Steady.

It's really important to proactively absorb training to push yourself to be the best you can be.

"Keller Williams gives us so much training, with regards to support on how to build a business. I've learned to look for certain things and to use certain tools to help develop you guys into everything that you can be. It's up to you to do it. But I can help get you there," shared Lori.

If you're interested in learning more about the DISC assessment contact Lori Alvarez. She is a certified DISC Profile coach for the John Maxwell Organization.

If the DISC Assessment isn't for you, there is also the KPA, Keller Williams Performance Assessment. So if you work within Keller Williams, reach out and ask about that. Lori would love to coach you through the assessment results.

Lori mentions, "It helps us to see who you are, and what you'll do well."
It's never too late to learn more about who you are. It's all in God's sovereign timing. "Life takes you to your path where you're supposed to be at that moment in your time."

Set Your Goals

Take a moment to write out your SMART goals. Do you know that common goal-setting acronym? "Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound."

Ask yourself these questions when you set your goals:

  1. Are you setting them so that you obtain them?

  2. Are you setting them so that they push you?

How do you choose an Occupation?

  1. What work do you want to do?

  2. What do you want to do for the rest of your life?

  3. How do you want to do it?

Careers and occupations are not like the olden days of staying with a company for 50 years and working your way from the bottom to the top. Most people change their careers about 3 to 5 times before settling.

Find Your Purpose and Values

Remember that everything in your life has some purpose.

You support other's passions, so why don't you support your own and give it a shot?

You may wish you had started this and started that sooner. But the truth is, "the path that you took to get where you're at today, is so relevant to where you are today. [...] I say all of that to say like, look back and say, Okay, what have I done? What have I learned? Where am I at? And how am I getting there?"

The biggest piece of advice Amy wants to give as you may be considering leaving one career to start another is:

"Find somebody who is in the career that they're interested in and shadow them as much as you can before you decide to really make that move. Find somebody who you admire who you think is just really thriving in that business. And ask them if you can shadow them, follow them for, you know, a few days, a few weeks, whatever, however the time you think you need.

That's what Amy did. She shadowed Lori attached at the hip for a couple of months and it clicked, " I want to do this."

Lori encourages you to learn to hustle; learn to find more than just a deal; establish relationships with amazing people; model other people until you outperform them.

But remember to choose people that align with your core values.

Find a mentor. Find a coach.

Invest in yourself.

"We just believe to know where we are right now. And how to boldly move forward and who we are and what we would like to achieve for our families. Because we take the time to figure it out. And we're okay with tomorrow."

Concluding Thoughts

"We are two different people who obtain our goals in very different ways. And yet, even though we do it differently, we're still on track to do it together. This is our thing. We're doing this. You're doing your part, I'm doing my part. And we're setting our goals. And we're honoring who we are and where we are in the business and how we do the business.

Remember,

  1. Move forward. Find somebody that you really admire and follow them around and shadow them and work hard to be like them or better.

  2. Develop yourself to be the best to be your best. And do that by understanding yourself. Take the time to reflect on who you are, where you're going, how you're getting there, and what community is supporting you and where you're going.
