135: Home Maintenance Tips for All Homeowners

Home maintenance is a HUGE responsibility to any homeowner. If the maintenance is not kept… it could be a very costly expense. On today’s episode with Real Estate with the Soul, Lori shares some easy tips and a list of things to keep up with.

Here is a list of certain areas of your home that you should be concerned with in terms of maintenance:

Outside the home

The roof - have it inspected from time to time and look for suspect areas that look loose or damaged.
Gutters - finished look and if you have them installed you don’t want them full of debris because they can fall and cause damage.
Siding - stuff you find on the side of your house when you have a wood like product. Or could be stucco. It protects the property, keeps mold out of the property
Trees - yikes. Maintain those trees, thin them out and keep them trimmed.

Inside the home
Water Heater & Plumbing - maintain the plumbing and if you have a backed up issue get it taken care of.
Water heater- watch for rust
Dryer vent - this is a good one that is missed a lot! Keep this vent clear- potential fire issues
Stove/hood - maintain and cleaned - could be a fire hazard.
refrigerators - keep them maintained and coils inspected
Electric - check wires and maintained. Not a bad idea to have an electric inspection from time to time

Foundation of the home
Walk your foundation and you’ll see if there are any major cracks or issues.
Air conditioner / heater- check the filters. Change those every 60-90 days. And get the ducts clean now and then.

It all matters - if you don’t maintain the property it could lead to much LARGER and costly mess. Have you started your maintenance check list?
